Megan McArdle and Noam Scheiber talk about the drawbacks of being poor in a half-assed welfare state like modern America.
"Daily existence is increasingly that of despair, depression, and derangement, punctuated by news of the latest serial murder spree or global eco-disaster, consumed as horrible entertainments in the emptiness." - John Zerzan

".. [W]hether or not you think their [OWS] reaction is empirically correct, it certainly isn't surprising. To them it looks like a bunch of greedy, stupid bankers stole the jobs that they were entitled to. And why the hell do a bunch of thieves get to drive around in BMWs while I take the bus?"

Open source guru Richard Stallman denounces ebooks (pdf. file)
Here's a partial list of Stallman's claim of physical book advantages."You can buy one with cash, anonymously. Then you own it. You are not required to sign a license that restricts your use of it. The format is known, and no proprietary technology is needed to read the book. You can, physically, scan and copy the book, and it's sometimes lawful under copyright. Nobody has the power to destroy your book."
