The Whole (Foods) truth is this

Spending millions of dollars to entice Whole Foods to build a store in Detroit is a waste of money. Whether you pay for your food with cash, credit, or EBT cards (AKA "food stamps") your money just won't buy as much at the pricey Whole Foods (even if it's in Detroit) than it will at a Meijers, Wal-Mart, or Kroger out in the suburbs.

Jack Lessenberry: "An Emergency Manager could be what Detroit needs"

Whoa. Lessenberry is and has always been a pretty standard  progressive Democrat for as long as I have been reading him and so I never expected to hear this opinion from him. Ever. But now we have.

"Detroit government is terribly broken and dysfunctional", says Lessenberry, "in a way it has so far proven impossible for elected leaders to repair. The basic problem is this: What was once a prosperous city of nearly 2 million people is now a largely dilapidated and shrunken one of barely 700,000 mostly very poor people.

In addition to vast debts and a current budget deficit, the city has a social services and public employee sector built for a larger, richer city, and can no longer sustain it. Especially not in the face of massive revenue cuts from the state."

Sad but true.

Ex-DPS superintendent gets flashed at meeting then gets paid $650 K to get over the trauma

Go figure? Most women who get flashed by an exhibitionist creep go home and barf and then maybe shop around for some pepper spray. Not if you're a DPS big-shot however. If that's the case then you sue DPS (i.e., the taxpayers) and get a gigantic settlement for your massive psychological damage. Go figure?

Jack Lessenberry says former Michigan governor's book lacks candor, honesty, and insight just like her terms as governor did

But old Jack still thinks her eight-year tenure as Michigan's governor was characterized by indecisiveness and lack of candor and that her book was written for all the wrong reasons.

So why in the world did she write this book, anyway?

"This [book] isn't for a Michigan audience," says a Lessenberry undisclosed source. "They've got her number. Nobody wants to see her, let alone buy a book she's written. We had eight years of her blowing us away. 'This is for Washington and New York audiences, to keep herself out there, to get speaking engagements and keep her job as a commentator on MSNBC, and maybe add to that."

That is how I see it too.

Death of the 'McMansion': Era of Huge Homes Is Over - CNBC

Probably a de-weaponized practice dummy, but who knows?

Why the Ann Arbor Chronicle doesn't endorse candidates - Ann Arbor Chronicle (Mary Morgan)
Not hard to understand. Morgan seems to be saying that the Chronicle would lose readership and ad revenue (because Ann Arborites are so partisan, spiteful and intolerant) and that they don't matter a tinker's damn anyhow. Morgan is right; they don't.

You be the judge. Three camera phone video clips to look at. The AAPD is doing an "internal investigation."

How Badly Is Michigan Screwed? - Metro Times (W. Kim Heron)
"Michigan, once a world technological leader, will settle slowly into the ooze. We will become Mississippi with ice storms, or maybe Haiti without sugar cane." Whoa! That's bleak.

Albeit indirectly. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero is taking money from Ambassador Bridge owner & alleged slumlord Matty Maroun. Eww! Follow the links in the blog post to read the whole thing.
