Bottom line: I don't. I recently installed Mozilla's email client Thunderbird. I then used it to delete about 90 percent of my old email going back to 2001. In all the time I have had it archived I have never gone back to look at it even once. Ever. Now it's all "permanently" gone. I feel lighter already.
