Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago: The white man’s Coleman Young?
"A fawning media of urban reporters puffed up Daley for years. According to the numbers, Mayor Daley is America’s worst Mayor [and is] leaving [Mayor-elect] Rahm Emanuel with intractable problems."
Moral reasoning in white people: Whites think "universally" in a world that thinks "tribally"
"The problem with moral universalism is that it makes it impossible to develop a similar moral sense on behalf of one’s people. As Westerners, a big part of our psychological baggage lies with post-Enlightenment universalist ideologies. They feel natural to us, whereas reasoning on the basis of what’s good for us doesn’t have any moral standing at all. It’s very difficult for us to get into the mode of 'Is it good for Europeans?' ”
"Daily existence is increasingly that of despair, depression, and derangement, punctuated by news of the latest serial murder spree or global eco-disaster, consumed as horrible entertainments in the emptiness." - John Zerzan

One of the most honest headlines I've seen in a very long time: "White House chooses new guy to lie to you about how bad our fiscal situation is". Written in re former Time writer and VP press secretary Jay Carney who was appointed to replace Robert Gibbs. Let the lying, obfuscating, spinning, propaganda, misdirection and bullshit begin! (Allahpundit @ HotAir.com)
Why is Chicago is so corrupt: "Believe it or not, a lot of it goes back to that bane of Chicago politics: Clout. People in Chicago tend to write off clout and political corruption in Chicago with a shrug, as a unique or even amusing local affectation, or just part of the character of purely political life of the city, but one that doesn’t fundamentally change its status as the 'City That Works.' But nothing could be further from the truth. Chicago’s culture of clout is a key, perhaps the key, factor holding the city back economically." (Aaron Renn @ NewGeography.com/)
Facebook Posts Mined For Courtroom Evidence: Internet posts might as well be carved in stone. Once posted comments exist forever, "deleted" or not. (Slashdot.org/)

Intel's new processors have a remote kill switch to protect your data if your device is ever stolen- TechSpot (via Slashdot)
Of course once this chip is able to be hacked by vandals, hackers, crackers, paparazzi, mafiosi, law enforcers, intelligence agencies et al then they'll all be able to remotely kill your device too, so there's that.

Grad students and post-docs are smart, inexpensive and thoroughly disposable. Even better in the eyes of the colleges, they pay them for the privilege of obtaining an expensive but largely useless advanced degree. Go figure?

Some street justice is meted out in, of all places, Chicago, Illinois. An older lady, tired of a 12 year old hoodlum and his gang throwing bricks through her window twice in one night, shoots the little bastard. And the amazing part (this is after all Daley-led anti-gun Chicago here ) she goes free and the punk goes to jail. Heh.
